NCP elects Comrade Waheed Lawal as new Acting National Chairman

National Coordinating Council (NCC) of the National Conscience Party (NCP) has elected Comrade Waheed Lawal as the new Acting National Chairman of the party.

The election was carried out during the Emergency Meeting of the National Coordinating Council of the party which was held on Wednesday, February 22.

The election of Lawal was not unconnected with the voluntarily stepping aside of the Party National Chairman, Mallam Tanko Yunusa. “In view of the fact that Mallam Tanko Yunusa has voluntarily stepped aside as the Party National Chairman, a motion was moved for the election of an Acting National Chairman pending the conveyance of a National Congress for the purpose of electing New National Leaders/Officers of Party.”

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Waheed Lawal thanked everyone for the confidence reposed in him and promised to run an all-inclusive government for the Party.

He acknowledged the role played by Pastor Peters Omoragbon in his consistency and ensuring that the meeting took place.

Other issues discussed at the meeting include the outcomes of the NCP Meeting held in Abuja on January 21 and 22, 2023. In the end five issues were identified. First was the purported appointment of Barrister V.C Odumejemba as National Secretary of NCP.

The NCC in session discountenanced the decision and went ahead by a unanimous vote to confirm Comrade Adebola Lateef as the NCP substantive National Secretary until the next National Congress.

Also the purported expulsion of Pastor Peters Omoragbon from the Party and as National Deputy Chairman (NDC) South–South was also looked into.

The NCC in session after a critical appraisal of the issue passed a vote of confidence on Pastor Peters Omoragbon as the NDC South-South and set aside the Abuja decision to have him expelled from the Party.
