Few errors not enough to call for cancellation of election, says APC PCC insists

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC PCC) has declared that minor mistakes recorded by INEC in Saturday’s presidential election is not enough for opposition political parties to call for the cancellation of the ongoing exercise

The Campaign council therefore  called on the Peoples Democratic Party. (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and the other opposition political parties to allow the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to complete the ongoing process of declaring the results of the presidential election conducted last Saturday

The APC PCC therefore called on the presidential candidates of the PDP and LP to emulate former President Goodluck Jonathan by calling to congratulate their APC counterpart, Bola Ahmed Tinubu before the official declaration.

The Special Adviser Media, Public Affairs and Strategic Communications Dele Alake, who stated this on Tuesday while briefing the media in Abuja, said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo has no moral justification to call for the cancellation of the election, having earlier admitted in 2007 that there is no perfect election.

He said the two presidential candidates should take the path of honour, having received details of the results from their agents at all levels of collation to call Tinubu ahead of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) formal declaration.

“In 2015, President Jonathan did not wait for INEC to finish collation before he called President Muhammadu Buhari and congratulated him on the true spirit of democracy and sportsmanship.

“We urge Atiku Abubakar and Obi to follow the same path of honour, instead of attempting to heat the polity via the reckless statements by surrogates. Let Atiku and Obi call Tinubu now”

Speaking further, spokesperson of the APC PCC, Festus Keyamo noted that minor flaws in last Saturday’s election  cannot justify the call for its cancellation, adding that rather than moves to truncate the nation’s democracy, the opposition should seek redress in court where they fell dissatisfied with the outcome
