Maj-Gen. Ezugwu takes over as Commander Infantry Corps


*Promisew to be an ‘Exatransformational’ leader 

 Major General Victor Okwudili Ezugwu yesterday took over the mantle of leadership of the elite Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army as the 15th Commander.


While addressing officers and soldiers at Headquarter complex and at Ihejirika Auditorium, Gen. Ezugwu applauded the visionary efforts of past Corps Infantry Commanders (CICs) in moving the Corps to its enviable status as the foremost Corps of the NA. He solicited the cooperation of the Rank and File to further move the Corps to a greater height. 


In his words: “I will adopt a type of leadership which I coined as ‘Exatransformational’ leadership style, which is a combination of exemplary and transformation leadership. “This will be my focal and driving tenet in achieving set objectives. I enjoin you all to be above board and maintain discipline”. 

The accomplished General thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, for assignning to him the privilege of commanding the “Queen of the Battle Corps”.


The Nigerian Army had profiled Ezugwu as an Infantry senior officer per excellence in its publications. He is of the high flying 37th Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy. He has held several appointments cutting across Command, Staff and Instructional in the Nigerian Armed Forces. 

He was the Acting Commander Nigerian Army Training and Doctrine Command, Director General Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, Pioneer Group Managing Director Nigerian Army Vehicle Manufacturing Company, Commandant Depot Nigerian Army Zaria, General Officer Commanding 7 Division Maiduguri, Directing Staff National Defence College, Commander 28 Task Force Brigade Mubi and Commanding Officer 35 Battalion Katsina among others. 


The highlight of the event was the lowering and hoisting of the Infantry flag at 4 Demonstration Battalion Quarter Guard, which herald the beginning of a new command, signing of the taking-over notes, and his decoration with the Infantry Corps insignia.


The brief but significant event was witness by the Chief of Staff, Headquarters Infantry Corp (HQ-ICC), Brig-Gen. NM Jega; the Director, Research and Development, Brig-Gen. EE Eyong; Director, Combat Development, Brig-Gen. MD Abumawashi; Director, Standard and Evaluation, Brig-Gen. JK Feboke; Director, Special Forces, Brig-Gen. FO Omata; Director, Transformation and Innovation, Brig-Gen. MI Lawan; Director, Combat Equipment, Brig-Gen. EA Orakwe, among other Principal Staff Officers of the HQ-ICC.
