Protest March: APC Commends Members Over Peaceful Conduct

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has commended its members and teeming supporters for the orderly manner in which they conducted a peaceful protest to the headquarters of the State Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The protest was staged over what it called the partisan disposition of the State Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC) in the just- concluded governorship and state assembly elections in the state.

The commendation was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs and Spokesperson for Gawuna/Garo Campaign Council,Malam Muhammad Garba,
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the party’s Chairman, Prince Abdullahi Abbas, and its governorship candidate,Dr. Nasiru Gawuna, and his running mate,Murtala Sule Garo.

They said in the statement that the maturity shown by the APC during the exercise indicated that its members were cultured and peace-loving

The party particularly drew comparison to the violent action of members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the name of victory celebrations during which innocent lives were lost and many people injured.

It also said that houses and offices were destroyed or set ablaze, while vehicles were smashed,in addition to massive looting of public and private properties.

Garba said during the protest march which started from Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, and moved to the INEC office at Hajj Camp, the APC denounced the Kano Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC) for being partial and aligning himself with the opposition party to announce the result of an election that was clearly inconclusive.

He said that as civilised and law abiding citizens, members of the APC would continue to pursue to the logical conclusion the injustice meted out to the party by a partisan public servant.

The Commissioner said the APC reiterated its call on its members to continue to remain faithful and loyal in the face of the broad-day robbery of justice.

He further assured that despite the setback, the party would bounce back and wax stronger to serve the people that brought it to power since 2015.
