FG to Support University of Agriculture with Farm Equipment, Others

The Minister Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar has pledged to support Imo State University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Umuagwo, with farm equipment, accessories grants to enhance economic growth, food and nutrition security amongst others.

The Minister made the pledge when the Acting. Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Christopher Eze led his team on courtesy visit to his office in Abuja recently.

Dr. Abubakar said that Agriculture is of great importance and cannot be separated from Environmental Sciences pointing out that Agriculture is no longer about food only but now a business and indeed the bases of all other businesses, noting that most of the foreign exchange earnings, infrastructures before now had been raised  through Agriculture.

He therefore assured that the ministry would work with the university to boost the socio economic development of the country.

The minister, however, promised to visit the university before the end of his tenure.

In his remarks, Prof.Eze commended the minister and Mlmanagement staff for their laudable programmes and achievements.

He pointed out that the dwindling state government resources and inadequate facilities had caused the university to operate with serious challenges and this explained their quest for assistance.

The Ag. Vice Chancellor, therefore sought the support of the ministry in the areas of Farm equipment, Gender advocacy grants for girl-child and rural women development, research grants for various areas in agriculture and environmental sciences.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of a book on environment authored by the Ag. Vice Chancellor to the minister.
