NES seeks media support on good reportage for environment sector

The new National President of Nigerian Environmental Society, Dr. Efegbidiki Okobia, says a robust media collaboration is essential for good reportage in the environment sector.

He stated this when a delegation of the Environmental Media Correspondents Association of Nigeria, (EMCAN) paid him a congratulatory visit in his office in Abuja recently.

Dr. Okobia disclosed that they are setting up a research term, that will look at critical environmental issues, not just to report but to carry out scientific research.

“We will reach out to government agencies and MDAs that are responsible for that part of environmental issues

“I like to change the landscape in the environment sector and we have professionals with scientific background.

“We will be coming up with environmental leadership, were we get company like the NNPC Boss who will tell us what they are doing in regards to environmental issues.

“We will want to hold Corporations and organizations accountable,” he stressed.

He said the NNPC took over the assets of Shell Development corporation in the Niger Delta area, in other to care of the communities but has failed in that respect.

Responding, Chairman of EMCAN, Chuks Oyema congratulated Dr. Okobia, on his election and prayed for success during his tenure.

Oyema advocated for partnership with NES to bring development in the environment sector.
