…as APC plots to take over Enugu state.
From Maurice Okafor, Enugu.
Even though programme of events to mark the May 29 handover date to a new civilian administration in Enugu state are yet to be unveiled, the governor elect, Dr Peter Mbah, is ready and equipped to take over the mantle of leadership of the state from Governor Ugwuanyi, who will bow out after completing the constitutional provision of two terms for every elected governor.
Governor Ugwuanyi was elected in 2015 and relected for a second term in 2019.Dr Peter Mbah, the Pinnacle Oil and Gas boss. the Enugu state PDP governorship candidate in the February 18 election, will take over from him even as Chief Uche Nna, the APC governorship candidate, who came fourth in the election,is ploting to be declared winner at the tribunal.
Chief Nnaji backed by the state chairman of his party, Barr. Ugochukwu Agballah, on friday urged the Enugu stjate governorship tribunal that both Dr Peter Mbah. Barr Edeoga of Labour party and Mr Frank Nweke(APGA) are not qualified to have participated in the election. The trio came first, second and third in the election.
It is obvious that chief Nnaji backed by Enugu state APC is plotting the Imo state example whereby Mr Hope Uzodinma, who came fourth in the Imo state governorship election was declared winner thereafter by the supreme court. based on technicalities.
But since government is a continuum and nature abhors vacuum. Dr Peter Mbah, the winner of the election will be sworn in on May 29, until the tribunal and supreme court states otherwise
Dr Mbah will be saddled with responsibity of piloting the affairs of the state for the next four years.
The Labour and it’s candidate, Hon Chioke Edeoga, also claims they won the election. One of his lawyers, Olajide Kumuyi, expressed confidence, they will be declared winner.
The Enugu APC flagbearer,Chief Uche Nnaji, who was accompanid by his deputy, Barr George Ogara. state chairman, Barr. Ugo Agballah, through their counsel said they pleaded for disqualification Dr Mbah, Hon Edeoga of Labour party and Mr Frank Nweke of APGA, claiming the trio were not eligible to have run the election.
The tribunal adjourned hearing on the matter on June 2.Evidently,two days after Dr Peter Mbah calls the shot as new Enugu state governor.
Meanwhile, Enugu state has maintained it’s serene and peaceful disposition with high expectations of socio economic innovations Dr Peter Mbah will introduce to revolutionalise the economy of the state,as contained in his manifesto.
Dr Mbah promised to rectify and restore reticulation of pipe borne water in Enugu metropolis within six months of his administration. Also to raise the gross domestic product(GPP) to 30million dollars before the end of his administration.
Interestingly, Dr Mbah during his town hall meetings used the opportunity to gather and articulate the most pressing need of the various communities into models that will guide his rural development drive.
Expectations that programme of events to mark the inauguration of Dr Mbah as governor of Enugu state on May 29,exactly seven days from today, will be unveiled to the media,at any moment from today.
