Why ACReSAL Project should touch every state – Gov. Sule Abdullahi

The Executive Governor of Nasarawa state, Engr. Sule Abdullahi has expressed his desire to see every state in Nigeria benefit from the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project, because the project by design will increase landscapes restoration, enhance food production and livelihoods in Nigeria.

The Governor stated this in Abuja on Thursday when the National Project Coordinator (NPC) of the ACReSAL project, Mr. Abdulhamid Umar and his team paid him a courtesy visit at the Nasarawa State Government Lodge.

Engr. Sule disclosed that Nasarawa state needs huge support to tackle myriad of environmental challenges in the state and only a proactive team will ensure that this is achieved.

“We are very much in need and interested in ACReSAL Project” he said.

The Governor congratulated the new National Project Coordinator of the ACReSAL Project, Mr. Abdulhamid Umar on his appointment. He thanked the entire ACReSAL team for the cooperation extended to him so far and appealed for their continuous support because without teamwork the project cannot succeed. He prayed that GOD Almighty will lead him to deliver on the project and he will even surpass the expected Project development objective (PDO).

He thanked the World Bank for continuous support to Nasarawa state through projects like ACReSAL and for their immense technical assistance in ensuring the success of the project implementation.

In his remark, the National Project Coordinator informed the Governor that the ACReSAL Project aim at addressing the challenges of Climate change in Nigeria whose effects are more severe in the Northern states.

He assured the Governor that the ACReSAL projects will continue to approve projects that align to the Project Development Objective for Nasarawa state and other states that have promptly paid their counterpart funds as a demonstration of commitment, support and love not only for the project but for the well being and good of their respective states.

Speaking further, he revealed to the Governor that ACReSAL Project is readiness driven and the total sum earmarked for the project implementation is available based on state preparedness to access it by initiating laudable projects. He said that the ACReSAL Project is available for the government of Nasarawa state to key in and support the state’s developmental efforts for the benefit of the last man in Nasarawa.

”ACReSAL project is community driven, to improve livelihood and address Climate Change challenges. We have four components in the project, I and my team will diligently serve Nasarawa state and other participating states including FCT and deliver on the components”, he affirmed.

Mr. Umar thanked the governor for being a devotee and promoter of the ACReSAL Project and for his sleepless efforts in improving livelihoods in the state.

He further thanked him for being instrumental to the formation of ACReSAL Project, by facilitating the meeting between the Northern governor’s forum and the project as well as for the establishment of a standalone Agency for arresting erosion and climate change in the state.
