The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu has donated different items to people living with disabilities and youths across the communities.
Speaking at the flag-off of the 2023 empowerment scheme on Thursday, Maikalangu said the initiative was to improve the well-being of those with disabilities as well help encourage youths in the council to be engaged in meaningful ventures.
He said his administration was committed to making the lives of residents better at all times .
Maikalangu, also appealed to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to expedite action on the creation of recreational centres for residents at all times.
The AMAC chairman lamented that the urban renewal policy of the FCT administration made it very difficult for AMAC residents to have recreational centres.
He explained that the empowerment scheme and distribution of empowerment materials to youths in AMAC is part of his administration’s commitments to enhance productivity and discourage laziness.
Maikalangu used the opportunity to encourage youths in AMAC to engage in meaningful venture in order to earn legitimate wealth that will stand the test of time, adding it is better to work very hard, have good name and earn respect than spending our time in wasteful ventures.
He maintained that as part of his strategy in one year in office, the administration is determined to encourage those youths who are willing to put in extra effort in legitimate ventures.
The AMAC chairman stated that the empowerment materials must not be diverted or sold, adding that they must serve the purpose it is meant for in order to engage youths in meaningful ventures.
Items distributed to the youths include, 30 sewing machines, 50 shovels, 50 rakes, 25 clippers, exercise books for LEA Primary Schools, 12 wheel chair (tricycles), 30 crouches, 12 air pressure machines, footballs, 24 set of jerseys and three table tennis boards for three town halls in AMAC.
