President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated elder statesman and educationist Bashorun Seinde Arogbofa on his 87th birthday, describing him as a principled leader and committed progressive.
In a State House press release issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Arogbofa’s contributions to national development, particularly in education and political leadership.
Tinubu commended the former Secretary-General of Afenifere for his steadfast commitment to progressive ideals and his consistent stance on issues affecting the South-West and the country at large.
The President noted that Arogbofa, regarded as one of the last surviving Awoists, has earned respect within progressive circles for his integrity, honesty, and dedication to unity and solidarity in Yorubaland.
He highlighted Arogbofa’s impact in the education sector, recalling his service as a school principal and as National President of the All Nigerian Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools, where he contributed to improving educational standards in Ondo State and across Nigeria.
Tinubu also acknowledged Arogbofa’s intellectual contributions as an author, citing his book, Understanding Afenifere, which documents the historical evolution of the pan-Yoruba group.
The President further praised Arogbofa’s loyalty to the leader of Afenifere, Reuben Fasoranti, noting that he stood firmly by him and resisted factional tendencies within the organisation.
He added that Arogbofa was among prominent South-West progressives who supported his presidential ambition from the outset.
Tinubu offered prayers for the elder statesman, asking God to grant him good health and many more years to continue sharing his wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and experience with the nation.
