Centre Scores Abbas, House Leadership High On Synergy

The Centre for Legislative Advocacy and Promotion (CLAP) has ranked the leadership of the 10th House of Representatives high in synergy.

In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Dr Samuel Amuta, the Centre said the Green Chamber under the leadership of Rt Hon Tajudeen Abbas is totally focused on its constitutional mandate.

Amuta said the Centre came to this conclusion after a thorough appraisal of the first month of the 10th National Assembly.

He said its judgment was based on surveys, interviews, and opinion gathering which captured nearly 70 percent of the legislators.

Describing Rt Hon Abbas as a resolute, passionate, and result-oriented leader, Amuta said the Speaker has so far performed beyond expectations.

Dr. Amuta said the Speaker has galvanized the House into an indivisible entity irrespective of party affiliations.

From its findings, he added that the current leadership has coordinated the affairs of the House with transparency, fairness, and justice to all members.

Dr. Amuta said the Speaker has demonstrated honesty, openness, and sincerity of purpose.

He said: “As critical stakeholders in the legislative business, we commissioned some of our agents to appraise the performance of the 10th House of Assembly. Among them were veteran reporters, ex-lawmakers, and lawyers among others.

“Unsurprisingly, the House leadership under Rt Hon Abbas received the top grade in key areas which includes transparency, accountability, unity of purpose, and synergy. The House leadership has also done well in strategies and policy adaptation.

“Our team noted that there has never been rancour or acrimony in the House as the Speaker has carried everybody along no matter their political parties. “

On the composition of ad-hoc committees, the Centre added that the leadership has respected professional and political interests at all times.

“We also must commend the House leadership for the incredible efforts to constitute committees in the next two weeks. This process has been transparent, rancour-free, and devoid of any acrimony and bitterness.

“We also have it on good authority that the leadership is expanding the standing committees to fast-track legislative activities and oversight functions. This is groundbreaking in every sense. “

The Centre, therefore, praised the members for standing by Abbas, offering him maximum support to better the lives of Nigerians.

While admitting that there is still a lot of work ahead, Dr. Amuta said significant progress has been made by the current leadership.

He, however, urged Nigerians to continue to stand by President Bola Tinubu as well as the legislative arm of government, adding that a new dawn is here already.
