From Dominic Akpensuen, Jalingo

The  Governor of Taraba State  Dr. Agbu Kefas, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has made plans to commence the control price of food items in the state.

The move was based on the fuel subsidy removal by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which triggered untold hardship on the people.

The Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security, Prof. Oliver Namessah, disclosed this while interacting with  stakeholders and leaders of Farm Produce Associations in the state.

The  Commissioner said the meeting became necessary while analysing the suffering of residents of the state.

Prof. Namessah, expressed  willingness and determination of the government to work with farmers associations to find lasting solutions to the problem.

Recall that a few days ago some women in Jalingo protested against the untold hardship in the state.

Meanwile, Lukman Jimoh, Chairman of Amana Farmers and Grain and Supply Association, Jalingo Branch, said the meeting was timely and promised to take the message of the government back to members of his association.

He observed that, some of the challenges that  led to the current situation include the high price of transportation caused by the removal of subsidy, some other problems highlighted include insecurity, which the group said has prevented many people from going to the farm.

The Director, Produce in the Ministry of Agriculture, frowned at the deliberate withholding of grains in  some of the marketers and advise them to open up their warehouses and ensure the prices of food items come down.
