Wike inspects Abuja metro rail stations, promises quick rehabilitation

By Daniel Tyokua

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike on Wednesday, inspected the Abuja Metro Rail stations, with a promise to quickly complete the project to reduce transportation stress of residents.

During the tour, Wike visited the Central Metro Station, Idu Rail Station and the Airport Rail Station, as part of his familiarisation tour to projects captured in his short term plan.

The minister stated that the administration would fast track the release of fund to the contractors to enable them complete the rail project as soon as possible.

He frowned that the rail project has been left uncompleted, noting that the non completion of the project is the reason for the vandalisation of some of the project components.

The minister noted that with the completion of the rail project, residents of the FCT will have a seamless transportation system, while the itinerant hold ups in the city centres will be abated.

He stated that the Abuja Metro Rail project is one of the projects need to be completed and put to use immediately to reduce traffic hold ups in the city.

According to him, “The Abuja Metro Rail project is one of the projects this administration wants to complete and put to use immediately to reduce the traffic in the city.

“The money for the rehabilitation of the project is there, we will make sure the contractor is paid to ensure that the project is completed and commissioned in the next few months.”

He advised the senior officials of the FCTA transportation secretariat to ensure that the entire station is fenced to prevent criminals from accessing it.

Wike also called on the company handling the project, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to do a better job.
