Benue SWAN felicitates with Sports Commissioner

By Chiangi Avese, Makurdi

Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Benue State Chapter, has felicitated with former Benue state House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon Terkimbi Ikyange, on his appointment as Commissioner for Youths and Sports in the State.

In a letter of felicitation signed by the state SWAN Chairman, Mr. John Shiaondo, and the state Secretary Mr. Tamenor Kwaghdzer, SWAN said, “Your appointment as the Youth and Sports Commissioner by Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration has not come as a surprise”.

“Considering your track record of achievements garnered while serving as speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly in the past, SWAN considers your appointment most appropriate amongst many others”.

SWAN noted that, as the former Speaker, the Commissioner had interacted not only with youth groups across the state but also with stakeholders in sports and is familiar with the demographics that led to the enactment of laws to address the challenges of youths and sports in the state.

Describing Rt. Hon. Ikyange’s appointment as a round peg in a round hole, SWAN expressed confidence that the commissioner would deliver the needed materials to turn around the fortunes of the sports sector for the good of all in the state.

SWAN therefore pledged support to the commissioner saying, “As journalists vested with the responsibility of reporting and promoting sports in Benue, we pledge to partner with your office and work closely with you by publicising the activities and achievements of your office.”

SWAN then wishes the Commissioner a fruitful tenure that would hopefully extend his record of achievements in the state, this time, in sports and youth development.

Rt. Hon. Terkimbi Ikyange was one of the 17 Commissioners Governor Hyacinth Alia swore in early this week alongside over 23 Special Advisers at the banquet hall of government house Makurdi.
