In recognition of his outstanding contributions to digital innovation and educational technology, Ernest Nmutaka Chikwendu has been inducted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Digital and Educational Technology.

The fellowship, conferred in 2023, acknowledges Chikwendu’s 24-year career dedicated to transforming digital banking platforms, scaling SME financing frameworks, and advancing technology-driven learning solutions across Africa and beyond.

Speaking at the induction ceremony, Chikwendu described the honor as both a milestone and a responsibility. “Becoming a Fellow is not just about recognition; it is about service,” he said. “Our responsibility is to ensure that technology remains inclusive, accessible, and a driver of human capital development.”

Chikwendu’s career achievements span global leadership roles at Citibank, FCMB, and Standard Chartered, where he spearheaded the rollout of digital banking systems across more than 15 countries.

Since 2022, as Director of SME Development (Banking & Financial Services) at Icon Global Services Ltd, he has designed frameworks that have enabled over 750,000 entrepreneurs to access finance through digital platforms.

The Chartered Institute commended him for championing digital literacy and capacity building, particularly through programs that target youth and women-led enterprises. His leadership, the Institute noted, aligns with global calls for inclusive education and innovation.

The fellowship positions Chikwendu among Nigeria’s leading voices in digital transformation, and his induction was celebrated by colleagues, industry leaders, and regulators alike.
