Herdsmen attacks: Gov. Alia condemns killing of innocent people

Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia of Benue state, has utterly condemned the unprovoked attacks on Ayilamo and Mbachohon communities in Logo and Gwer-West Local Government Areas of the state by suspected armed herders.

Governor Alia frowns at the nefarious activities of the herders, questioned the maiming and killing of innocent Benue citizens in cold blood.

“Benue is an agrarian society whose economy is largely based on producing and maintaining crops and farmlands, and we cannot watch our people killed daily on their farmlands and their villages for a cause very unknown to us”, Gov. Alia pointed out.

Governor Alia who lamented cases of alleged herdsmen attacks on Benue communities often leading to loss of lives and properties said, “i will not rest until such barbaric acts are curtailed”.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Sir Tersoo Kula said, “a twin attack in the state which happened at Ayilamo in Logo local government and Mbalam, a community in Mbachohon Council ward of Gwer-West in the early hours of Tuesday 17th October 2023, by persons suspected to be armed cattle herders killed at least, 9 persons.

According to the statement, the governor in sympathizing with the families of those who lost their loved ones in these attacks, called on security agencies in the state to quickly delve into the depths of the unfortunate situations and apprehend those suspected to be behind such attacks and bring them to justice.

He called on traditional rulers and youths in the state to be vigilant and report any suspicious move to the security.
