The Inspector General of Police (IGP). Kayode Egbetokun, has commended the People’s Republic of China for sponsoring 15 officers of the Nigeria Police Force on a 2-weeks intensive training on combating cyber security.

The team of 15 officers of the  Nigeria Police Force was led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Muhammad Musa Danko.

In a statement signed by the Force Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi (ACP), the IGP noted that the programme imparted crucial cyber security knowledge to officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

He, therefore, pledged continuous collaboration with China in security and intelligence sharing.

While congratulating the contingents for successfully expanding their knowledge in divers aspects of the cyber security, the IGP charged them to apply their experiences effectively in combating cybercrime and contribute to the nation’s security efforts.

The workshop, which ran from October 29 to November 11, 2023, provided 15 NPF contingents with valuable insights into cybercrime prevention and detection.

The initiative, which is one of the offshoots from the IGPs earlier visit to China, was organized by the Third Institute of the Ministry of Public Security, PR China, and co-organized by the Shanghai Institute of Science & Technology Management.

The training, according to the statement, was geared towards enhancing the knowledge and skills base of Nigeria Police Officers in tackling cyber threats.

“The seminar covered various aspects of cyber security, including Zero Trust, Network Security Level Protection Management, Methods of Strategic Intelligence Analysis, and Analysis of Electronic Data Forensic under the New Situation of Network, IoT, and Open Source Data Intelligence Analysis,” the statement explained.

The 15-member team of the NPF led by  ACP Muhammad Musa Danko, the statement said, “expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn and explore the Chinese success story in combating cybercrime; while also acknowledging the role of experts such as Song HaoHao, John Homan, Cheng Xin, and Zhao Jinping for sharing their knowledge and providing multi-disciplinary perspective on cybercrimes.”

The workshop, according to the statement,  strengthened the bond between the Nigerian and Chinese law enforcement agencies and also fostered a deeper understanding of the evolving landscape of cyber threats.
