In a bid to mobilise more support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of 2027 general elections, some chieftains bid the party from across the country have floated a new platform – Consolidated APC Grassroots Movement (CAGraM).
Addressing the press in Abuja on Thursday, the group said it would not be out of place for one of its members to emerge as the APC presidential candidate in 2031.
Chairman of the Restructuring Committee for CAGraM, Emmanuel Nwosu, explained that the immediate goal of the group is to its members who labored for APAC’s victory “at the 2023 presidential polls are handsomely rewarded”.
According to Nwosu, “we all made unquantifiable sacrifices during the presidential campaign, and many of our compatriots lost their lives in the cause of the campaign.
“For that reason, we will vigorously and painstakingly engage all our elected and appointed party leaders, starting with our dear President, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to ensure that our sacrifices do not go to waste.
“Our midterm goal is to aggressively sweep the entire grassroots across Nigeria and recruit all undecided voters and first-time voters into our organisation and make them committed APC members who will vote for our party come 2027 general election and other off-season elections
“Furthermore, we must ensure that all our leaders and members of this great movement who desire to run for office in the 2027 general election are delivered at all levels. We now have the grassroots network to achieve this, and so we will.”
Stressing the imperative of floating CAGraM, he said: “APC Support Group has become so messed up that political leaders now see it as child’s play, therefore; associating this powerful grassroots political movement with mere Support Group will be a terrible dishonour to the great men and women, political heavyweights who have brought out their time and resources to campaign for election under this organisation.
“Some leaders of our great party APC have called to congratulate us for achieving this feat which only few registered political parties have been able to execute.
“The task ahead is still enormous because we must ensure that this movement takes over the entire political grassroots across Nigeria before the 2027 general election, so as to guarantee our great party APC a total win at all levels.
“Consequently, our election for Local Government, Ward and Polling Unit Executives will hold mid-January next year, 2024 and by the time all Excos have been elected, down to Polling Units, we would have accomplished the feat of building the first political mass movement within any political party in Nigeria
“There is no doubt that in politics, what makes you relevant is not the name or the noise, but what you can bring to the table to help win election“We have proved beyond any doubt; that we have so much to bring to the table, therefore, no leader or stakeholder in our party or Nigeria for that matter; will dare joke with what this organisation can deliver at polling units across the country.”
