A civil society organisation, Close Watch have stressed need for government institutions to work with one another in resolving contentious issues.
The group stated this in reaction to the fracas between the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and some personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Kaduna.
Close Watch in a press release by the National Coordinator, Biodun Odele said the issue could have been handled without degenerating into a public spate.
The group said the present Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar is a strict adherent of ethics who will never tolerate disorderly behavior by his personnel.
While not passing judgement, Close Watch said the EFCC should have engaged the leadership of the NAF at Kaduna and if that failed reached out to the NAF leadership at their headquarters in Abuja, rather than seeking public sympathy even before the matter is being thoroughly investigated.
According to the group, EFCC and the NAF are both government institutions with key roles to play in the security architecture of our country, hence should not subject each other to any form of embarrassment.
Close Watch said, “the Chief of the Air Staff,
Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar will never condone any disorderly conduct both in private and public of his personnel. He frowns at behaviors which tend not only to embarrass the service but the government as a whole.
“We urge government agencies to work harmoniously especially as the country is passing through security challenges.”
