The chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu has given contractors handling road projects in the council two months each to complete the contracts.
He said his administration would not hesitate to revoke any contract that the contractor fail to meet up with the completion time.
Maikalangu stated this during the ground breaking ceremony for the rehabilitation of phase 1 of the 620 metre Karmo-Tsoho township road, Tuesday.
The chairman explained that the road projects being carried out across the twelve political wards of the council were in fulfilment of his promises during the campaign.
He called on the traditional ruler and residents to support the contractor to complete the project, which he said will open up the area to development.
Maikalangu urged the residents to cooperate with the contractors to deliver the project, saying there must be good schools, hospitals and other projects which will affect some structures but they must give way for the projects to be executed.
According to him, “I’m giving each contractor two months to complete all AMAC road projects. First is six weeks and after it, the contractor will be given another grace of two weeks to complete the contract, failure to meet up within two months the contract will be given to another company.
“A contractor that fails to deliver within the specified time will lose the contract, there is no need delaying the work that is paid for.
“Again, residents of the community should not frustrate the contractor, any structure that will be affected by the project should be pulled down to pave way for the work.
“Any community in AMAC that fail to allow road project to go on, it will be taken to another area that needs it”
The District Head of Karmo-Tsoho, Umar Danlamin assured the chairman that the community will give the contractor necessary support to complete the work.
Danlami urged Maikalangu to always differentiate between old and new Karmo in providing dividends of democracy to the area, he also called for employment of unemployed youth in his domain.
