The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has promised to make necessary provisions that will help to defeat criminals in Gwagwalada Area Council.
He gave the assurance during the second in the series of town hall meetings to tackle insecurity, help in Gwagwalada town on Friday.
Wike said the meeting was at the instance of president Bola Tinubu’s directive to him on the need to adopt measures that will address kidnapping issues in the territory.
The minister told religious and traditional leaders in the area to always provide security agencies with relevant information that will help in routing the criminals.
He assured police in the area that patrol vehicles will soon be provided for them.
On the request by the chairman Gwagwalada Area council, Abubakar Giri for two additional police stations and demolition of undeveloped structures, Wike asked the Police Area Commander to work with the FCT commissioner of Police and fast track the establishment of more divisions in the area.
He also told the chairman to formally forward his letter of request to him for approval to demolish abandoned buildings harbouring the criminal elements.
According to him, “The President has asked me to visit all the Area Councils of the FCT. I was in Bwari earlier this week, today I’m in Gwagwalada, next week I will go to Abaji and Kwali.
“I have heard what the Chairman has requested and I agree with him. I also heard what the traditional ruler said too, and I also agree with him.
“Security is one of the key things that Mr. President has vowed to give Nigerians, because his job is to protect their lives and property, If we can’t protect the lives and properties of the people, it means that we as leaders serving the people doesn’t have any meaning.
“All these criminals should get ready, as their time is up. You all know that if I say I would do something, I would definitely do it. If you know you are an informant to these criminals or even one of the criminals, your time is up. The Security agencies and I will make sure we deal with you to the extent that you would not come close to Gwagwalada again”
In his remarks, the chairman Gwagwalada Area council, Abubakar Giri asked for establishment of police division in Dobi and Giri to strengthen fight against criminals.
Giri said: “In the whole of Gwagwalada we have only two police divisions, Gwagwalada township and Zuba, I urge the minister to help us talk to the FCT commissioner of Police to provide Dobi and Giri with police divisions, it will help the fight against criminals on Gwagwalada -Zuba road”
The Aguma of Gwagwalada, Mohammed Magaji also requested for the provision of a new patrol van for the police in the area.
