Abuja community leader wants more support for children

By Ábbanobi – Eku Onyekachi

The village head of Idu in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Muhammad Makama has urged the minister of FCT Nyesom Wike to do more for school children in the territory.

He said the continued strike by school teachers was not healthy for the children.

The Village head and Asugeri of Idu, the host community of Idu Industrial Area in the nation’s capital, also drew the attention of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to the menace of insecurity in the territory.

He made the appeal in his message to mark 2024 International Day for Education (IDE) with the theme: Learning for Lasting Peace.

On the teachers’ strike, he said the children when left without going to school will never do the country any good, as the leaders of tomorrow.

He reminded those in authority that the teachers deserve better treatment, saying that without teachers, those in authority wouldn’t be there.

According to him, the children when given proper training and education would turn up to be good leaders, and the result according to him will be a better society.

“Please, let the government take the issue of education serious, for the interest of our children, being the tomorrow’s leaders,” he pleaded.

He appealed with teachers to always temper justice with mercy, by always liaising with the government, for the interest of the children.

Makama, however reminded that the children can’t do without the teachers, thus he reiterated the need for them to temper justice with mercy.

On insecurity, he advised each Area Council to encourage members of vigilante in every locality to prevent the evil menace of kidnappers, even as he appealed to the Federal Government to continue assisting the FCTA in the fight.
