As part of measures to alleviate the suffering experienced by vulnerable Nigerians, the House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to recommence the disbursement of N-Power and other Social Investment Programs.
This is sequel to the adoption of a motion, sponsored by Hon. Billy Osawaru, from Edo State at plenary which emphasized the urgent need to address poverty and hunger in the nation.
Hon. Osawaru who highlighted the detrimental impact of suspending the program due to the suspension of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as well as the removal of the National Coordinator of the Social Investment Program, warned that this has exacerbated hardships for program beneficiaries and could potentially cause social unrest.
Adopting the motion, the House urged the Federal Government to swiftly conclude its investigation of allegations against the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and called for the postponement of the establishment of a Steering Committee Board tasked with overseeing the program’s operations.
