In order to boost and ballance Nigeria’s economy and compete favourably internationally, Nigeria’s Senate President Godswil Akpabio has called for investing seriously into other areas, like solid minerals, instead of relying solely on crude oil.
Akpabio came up with this advice in an address he delivered at the investigative hearing by the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals Development on Tuesday.
Hear him: “We must investigate why our national economy continues to rely solely on crude oil.
“Why can’t we infuse our economy with the richness of solid minerals and liberate ourselves from the shackles of oil dependence?
“How can we transform our mono-economy into a fully diversified economy?
“These are the fundamental questions that we must confront and address. Today, we embark on a 3-day Investigative Hearing on the comprehensive review of the Nigeria Mining Industry, driven by the spirit of inquiry and the desire for economic diversification.
“I extend my gratitude to the Committee on Solid Minerals Development for their dedication in organizing this significant event.
“Their commitment to the development of our nation’s mining sector and their leadership in driving the diversification of our economy is truly commendable.”
Saying that resolution in the senate that led to the investigative hearing underscored the pivotal role that the mining industry should play in the country’s quest for economic diversification, he adds that Nigerians can no longer overlook the immense potential of the sector.
Imploring the stakeholders at the hearing to actively engage in fruitful deliberations, he reminded them that their recommendations are invaluable in shaping the future of Nigeria Mining Industry.
