FCT Emergency Department warns motorists against reckless driving

Acting Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Abdulrahman Mohammed has warned motorists in the nation’s capital, Abuja to avoid reckless driving during downpour.

Mohammed called on the residents to take precaution and always put off electrical appliances during the rain.

“Please always wait for the water level to recede before driving during a heavy downpour”, he stated.

Mohammed noted that this caution was necessitated following the early warning issued by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMET).

In a statement issued by the agency’s head, Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, said thunderstorms and rains were predicted over parts of the FCT in the early evening of Sunday, 8th of June.

It added that states contiguous to the FCT as well as Kwara, Benue and Plateau States are expected to experience similar weather conditions.

“Similarly, on Tuesday parts of the FCT, Nasarawa,Nigeria, Benue and Plateau States are expected to experience early evening thunderstorms with rain.

Meanwhile, the FEMD Boss has emphasized the need for residents to always use the 112 emergency toll free number in the event of an emergency”, the statement added.
