By Chiangi Avese, Makurdi

Benue State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, has described the successive awards to state Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, in the past two weeks as, “the product of his unprecedented performance in less than one year of the administration”.

In communique at the end of its emergency meeting on Wednesday in Makurdi, SWAN applauded the organisations for recognizing Governor Hyacinth Alia’s people oriented administration and developmental strides in only twelve months in office, saying the awards NUJ and Yar’Adua Foundation on Human Rights and Good Governance are tremendous encouragement to the governor.

SWAN therefore, called on the governor to sustain the tempo of good governance to win more awards including that of best performing Governor among others.

“We however, notes with concern the fast falling performance of Lobi Stars Football Club in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League and urges government to step up funding of the club meant to stop it from further decline. SWAN also appeals for funding of the other sports as well as the total renovation of the Aper Aku stadium”.

The communique called on the CEO of Lobi Stars FC, Dominic Iorfa, the management, entire supporters of the club to remain calm, resolute and keep faith with the team as the league season near the end.

The Benue State chapter of SWAN then felicitated with Governor Alia and prayed for good health and increased wisdom to steer the affairs of the state as he clocks 58 years on May 15, 2024.

SWAN also called on the Governor Rev. Fr. Alia to hasten the process of constituting the proposed new joint security outfit aimed at checkmating activities of the criminal elements stalking in rural areas and causing the insecurity in the State, saying the measure would safeguard lives and property of residents of Benue State.
