“ I don’t think I have anything than to ensure that our teeming youths, particularly within the circle of less privileged and orphans, are highly educated like every other citizen in this our great country”,

These were the words of former governor of Zamfara state, Alh. Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar when he was speaking to our correspondent in respect of the committee he constituted with responsibility of sponsoring indigenous youths across the country to further their education.

The committee, known as A A Yari scholarship initiative is chaired by senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura and 14 other members drawn from all the 14 local governments in the state.

Alh. Yari who is now a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria spoke through the chairman of the committee, senator TIjjani Yahaya Kaura in Gusau, capital of the state during the week.

The committee, according to the chairman is to among other things sponsor 1700 indigenes of the state who could not further their studies due to financial constrain from either themselves or their parents.

” We are selecting100 youths from each of the 8 local governments where the senator hails from, we are also to ensure that the targeted youths have obtained a genuine admission letter from any of the public university in the country because the programme is purely within the nation and we don’t accept private institution.

Senator Kaura further explained that all the lucky students in the programme, which is a Degree, HND and Diploma will also be collecting a certain amount of money at the end of every month as allowances and the amount will differ from one course to another.

“This committee constituted by the former governor who is now a senator, Alh. Abdulaziz Yari is also shouldered with the responsibility of paying the students a certain amount of money at the end of every month and the amount differ from one course to another, in other words, what a student of medicine takes is not what an engineer or law student will take, “senator Tijjani Kaura revealed.

He disclosed also that as there is a standing committee, its assignment does not only stop at the first batch of the programme because after the first batch has successfully graduated, we are bringing another batch as it is a continues programme initiated by the former governor aimed at assisting our youths particularly those whose parents cannot afford sending them to school as well as orphans who lost their breadwinners.
