FMEnv restates support for National Plastic Action Partnership Road Map

The Federal Government has reiterated that the ban on the single plastic usage in government establishments was aimed at addressing the menace of plastic waste.

The Minister of State for Environment, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako stated this when he received a delegation of the Nigeria National Plastic Action Partnership Road Map (NNPAP) in his office in Abuja.

This is contained in a press release signed by Mudasiru Mufutau, for Head, Press and Public Relation Unit, Federal Ministry of Environment.

The press release said the NNPAP delegation led by Mr Clem Ugorji and his team visited the Minister for an update on the official launch of National Action Roadmap on NNPAP.

“Dr. Salako urged the NNPAP team to ensure that the roadmap is in line with the Circular Economy policy on Management of Plastic waste in the Country.

“Salako reiterated that the ban on the single plastic usage in government establishments was aimed at addressing the menace of plastic waste.

“Earlier, the Leader of the delegation, Mr. Clem Ugorji, revealed that they were in the Ministry to seek support for the upcoming launch of the NNPAP National Action Roadmap.

“Mr. Clem further disclosed that the collaboration with the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is aimed at having adequate data of plastic waste in the country to increase the control and dimensions through the involvement of relevant stakeholders in plastic waste management.

“The Director of Pollution and Environmental Health Control, Federal Ministry of Environment, Usman Abubakar Bukani stated that Nigeria became a partner of Global Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP) in January, 2021 and the launch of the Nigeria National Plastic Action Partnership (NNPAP) was in May, 2023.

“Mr Bukani further stated that the NNPAP is a locally – led multi-stakeholder collaboration platform for translating commitments to address plastic pollution into concrete action.”
