Third Republic lawmakers plead for understanding with Tinubu over planned Nationwide protest

Third Republic Federal Lawmakers have joined in the call to abort the planned nationwide protest by yet to be identified groups in the country which is expected to commence on 1st of August to the 10th following the economic hardship that followed some stringent economic policies taken by the president Bola Ahmed Tinubu on assumption of office on May 29 2023.

The group of the class of 1992-93 Lawmakers who are representing the 593 federal Lawmakers during the third Republic an led by the Group Spokesperson Hon. Basil Okafor, made the call in Abuja at a press briefing after the outcome of an extraordinary meeting with a resolve to appeal to the vibrant youths in the country on the need to set aside there plans to embark on the needless exercise.

On why government has not made moves to identify leaders of the planned protest, Hon. Alhassan Doguwa, Federal Lawmaker, Kano State, explained that the present members of the house have made overtures to their various constituencies on the need to shun the protest.

The group however appeal to the protest planners to give the president more time to fix the country.

In another development, Chairman of the House Representatives Committee on Industry, Hon. Enitan Dolapo Badru, has stressed the need to ensure legislation aligns with contemporary needs as it pertains to skills acquisition and management.

At a public hearing organised by the Committee to consider the Bill for an Act to amend the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Act 2011 to clarify ambiguities in the interpretation of key words in the Principal Act, define important terms, the Chairman notes that this will provide clarity and precision and enhance the Fund’s sources of revenue and for related matters (HB 1519) of 2024.

While noting that the House of Representatives in the passage of any Legislation was grass-root oriented and developmentally focused, Hon. Badru said the 10th House is committed to legislation that would ensure the enhancement of better life for the citizenry.

He further assured that the Committee will synthesize the various views from Stakeholders and arrive at a just and reasonable position that will be presented to the House for adoption.
