Tinubu, Wike have addressed demands of Abuja youths – AMAC chairman

By Daniel Tyokua

The chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu on Tuesday, said President Bola Tinubu with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike have addressed the demands of would-be protesters in the Federal Capital City by approving establishment of Youth Secretariat.

He said the Secretariat is an additional platform for more engagement and promotion of issues that will have direct bearing on the well-being of youths and there was nothing to protest.

Maikalangu stated this during a town hall meeting with youth, members of political parties and other stakeholders across the twelve political wards of the council.

The chairman also said the public complaints commission slot that was taken away from FCT has been restored and there was nothing to protest again.

He spoke at the instance of the planned protest August 1, warning against undesirable elements protesting in the council or anywhere in the city.

He said Nigerians have the right to protest but they should not allow themselves to be used by faceless elements to thwart the good works of government.

Maikalangu said: “As I welcome all the stakeholders, party faithful from various political parties, Royal fathers and religious leaders, I must say that the choice to demonstrate peacefully is a fundamental right of citizens as enshrined in Section 40 of our Constitution and other enactments.

“But this right to protest also imposes on the demonstrators the responsibility to respect the rights of other citizens, and the necessity to operate within the law.

“For those faceless element in the society who are bent by all means to topple a democratically elected government through the back door with the #tag; End The Bad Government slogan, it is unacceptable here in AMAC and the entire FCT”
