Oga Ndi Oga Foundation on Sunday expressed excitement following the inauguration of Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) by Gov Charles Soludo.
Recall that Governor Soludo on Tuesday inaugurated a six member ANSIEC headed by Mrs Genevieve Osakwe, a magistrate.
Speaking on the development the Founder/CEO of Oga Ndi Oga Foundation High Chief Godwin Agbasimelo thanked Gov Soludo for taking the step towards conducting local government election after over a decade of non conduct of LGA polls in Anambra State.
He said, “firstly, let me thank Gov Soludo for taking the bold step towards conducting local government election after the last election held over ten years ago.
“Secondly, this development is a response to our yearning to give grassroots democracy a chance in Anambra State for us to deepen democracy on a much stronger note in the State and on our part as a mass movement for grassroots development we are happy”
High Chief Agbasimelo warned “political desperadoes” against jeopardizing the chances of grassroots democracy by election malpractices adding that the quest for LGA election to deepen grassroots democracy in Anambra is long over due.
“Now that Gov Soludo has given response to our yearning, let’s therefore give democracy a chance to thrive at the grassroots level by giving room for credible, free and fair local government election in Anambra State.
“Democracy is not just about desperate politicians who wants to win election and milk public fund, no democracy is about people who want to give good leadership and that is what Oga Ndi Oga Foundation is yearning for.
“We want good leaders at Community level as Councillors and good leaders as Local government chairmen,” he stressed.
He congratulated Mrs Osakwe and her team, even as he urged them to emulate Gov Soludo and work according to the yearning of Ndi Anambra, cautioning that anything short of credible, free and fair local government election will not be accepted by Ndi Anambra.
