APC Diaspora Group accuses PDP lawmaker of undermining Tinubu’s govt

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Diaspora group
has accused the member of the House of Representatives representing Ideato North/South federal constituency of Imo State, Hon Ikenga Ugochinyere of undermining the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

According to the group, Ugochinyere, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is allegedly rallying opposition forces as part of a broader strategy in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

The group expressed concerns about what they describe as a “subtle campaign” by the lawmaker, targeting the petroleum sector with the intent of painting APC-led federal officials in a negative light.

“Some members in the House of Representatives are concerned about Ugochinyere’s ongoing efforts to portray officials overseeing the petroleum sector as complicit in the sector’s alleged maladministration,” the group stated.

The APC Diaspora Group also referenced a recent meeting where Ugochinyere and five other legislators visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta.

During the meeting, Obasanjo reportedly urged the lawmakers to work towards a reformed and efficiently run Nigeria.

Ugochinyere later explained that the visit was intended to seek the former President’s advice on national issues and to learn from his extensive experience in governance, particularly during challenging times.

The group reported that Ugochinyere praised Obasanjo for the various reforms carried out during his presidency, which he believes laid the foundation for significant progress in Nigeria. However, the lawmaker also criticized subsequent governments for failing to build on these reforms, particularly in areas such as electricity, foreign policy, civil service, and digitalization, which he claims have led to the current economic challenges.

“If successive governments had built on the electricity reforms, foreign policies, civil service reforms, and digital reforms, among other initiatives, we would not be facing the economic challenges that confront us today,” Ugochinyere was quoted as saying.

The APC Diaspora Group further alleged that Ugochinyere is reaching out to disaffected opposition elements and business leaders who are dissatisfied with the current administration, urging them to mobilize against the re-election of the APC in 2027 under President Tinubu’s leadership.
