Tor Tiv advocates for agricultural development, pledges support for AOPOLY

The Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, has underscored the importance of advancing agriculture to enhance food production and agribusiness in Benue State.

The Tor Tiv stated this when he recieved members of the Governing Council of Akperan Orshi Polytechnic (AOPOLY), Yandev, who paid him an official visit at his palace in Gboko.

During the visit, the Tor Tiv highlighted the need for increased training of extension workers and the revival of of the agric fame of the Polytechnic which dates back to its dsys as College of Agriculture .

He committed to strengthening the historical bond between the Polytechnic and the Palace, recognizing its pivotal role for the Tiv people and Benue State.

The monarch also pledged to leverage his local and international networks to elevate AOPOLY’s status and operational significance.

He encouraged the Governing Council to foster unity with the institution’s management and host community to revitalize both existing and new revenue streams.

Earlier, Dr. Victoria Pillah, Chairman of the AOPOLY Governing Council, outlined the Polytechnic’s challenges and opportunities.

She emphasized the urgent need for programme accreditation and improved revenue generation, expressing determination to meet the expectations set by Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Dr. Pillah also called on the Tor Tiv to offer regular guidance, valuing his expertise in educational administration and governance.

She extended gratitude to her team and thanked Governor Alia for entrusting them with the oversight of AOPOLY.

The visit, attended by both internal and external members of the governing council and Polytechnic management staff, followed the inauguration of the 9th Governing Council by Governor Alia in July 2024.
