The Director-General/Chief Executive of National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Engr. Chukwuemeka Woke, has assured that the agency is committed to following international standards in the implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with petroleum industry operators in the country.
He gave the assurance while receiving members of the Board of Directors of Clean Nigeria Associates (CNA) in his Abuja office on Thursday.
Engr. Woke said the courtesy visit was a clear demonstration of recognition and value placed on NOSDRA as an environmental regulatory body in the industry.
He assured that he will give required attention to all the requests from CNA, adding that the issue of MOU with the industry operators will not only be looked into but also accelerated to ensure that the companies operate within the international standards.
Earlier in his remarks concerning the purpose of the courtesy visit, Dr. Adeshina Sadiq, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CNA who is also General Manager, Health Safety and Environment (HSE) of Seplat Energy, said the visit was to congratulate the DG/CE on his appointment and wish him a successful tenure, apart from seeking ways to strengthen relationship with NOSDRA and moving the MOU with the Agency beyond paperwork.
While expressing the Association’s quest for regional positioning by collaborating in oil spill response beyond the shores of Nigeria, including the Gulf of Guinea, he also wanted NOSDRA to expand the representation of CNA’s participation in the biennial GI-WACAF summit to include a Board member of the Association and another from its Executive.
