LG elections: Imo Assembly thumbs up State electoral body, ISIEC

Despite criticism by some opposition political parties and social critics, on the conduct of last Saturday, Imo State local government elections by Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC, the State law makers have expressed satisfaction over the conduct.

The commendation came following a motion moved by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon.Amarachi Iwuanyanwu , representing Nwangele State Constituency.

Iwuanyanwu noted that the election supervised by ISIEC produced 27 Chairmen of Councils and 305 Councillors respectively, all of All Progressive Congress, APC political platform.

He observed that the elections were free and fair and devoid of violence, attributing it to the concerted efforts of the State Governor, Hope Uzodimma.

The Law maker also described the election as an indication of political growth in the State, especially with the turnout of voters which he deemed impressive.

The Deputy Speaker further commended the ISIEC Chairman, Mr Charles Ejiogu and his team for a successful democratic process devoid of bickering, wranglings and acrimony.

He went on to congratulate the winners, while charging them to strive to develop the local government areas.

Supporting the motion, the Chief Whip, Mr Chigozie Nwaneri (Oru East), added that the ISIEC officials displayed professionalism and readiness.

He also commended the governor for ensuring that everything needed for a successful election was put in place.

Similarly, the Ideato North representative, Mr Okechukwu Udeze observed that election materials arrived early and voting was free and fair.

Mr James Esile (Onuimo) noted that there were no reports of violence while describig the election as “a show of acceptance.”

Following more contributions in support of the notion, the Speaker, Mr Chike Olemgbe (Ihitte Uboma) ruled in favour of its prayers.
