Group calls for probe of unlawful release of awaiting trial inmate at Enugu Prisons

A Non-governmental Organization, Dozie Obodo Nigeria (fix Nigeria), has called on the Minister of Interior to investigate the circumstances which led to the unlawful release of one Musa Hassan, who was charged with stealing 200 cows in Enugu, but was unlawfully released from custody at the Enugu Prisons under suspicious circumstances.
The group expressed worry that despite that his trial is still pending before an Enugu High Court, Hassan was illegally released from prison custody and walked free, raising major concerns about corruption and foul play among correctional officers.
Recall the alarming viral case of Bobrisky, who allegedly served prison term in a private residence instead of a correctional facility. “Such abuses of the system are unacceptable and undermine our rule of law.
“We are calling on the Minister of Internal Affairs to immediately launch a comprehensive investigation into these incidents and others like them.
“These unlawful actions erode public trust and embolden corruption within the justice system.
Nigerians deserve answers. It’s time for accountability!
Join us in demanding a full investigation into these cases and strict actions against any correctional officers involved in such misconduct,” Chief Chukwudike Eziokwu, leader of the NGO stated in a statement.
Hassan had about three years ago, allegedly stole 200 cows belonging to Engr. Luke Mmamel, who had contracted Hassan to take care of his cows, only for Hassan to steal all of them and ran away from Enugu to Rivers State.
Up till now, none of the cows stolen from Engr. Mmamel has been recovered while the suspect was unlawfully released from prison custody while the case is still pending.
