Following the gruesome murder of about fifteen persons in Nibo, Awka South LGA of Anambra State, the government has vowed to hunt down the perpetrators.
The vow was contained in a press release signed the Anambra State Commisioner for Information, Law Mefor(PhD) dated 20th October, 2024 made available to journalists on Monday.
The statement reads, “Anambra State Government is aware of the deaths that resulted from alleged cult-related killings that occurred in Nibo, Awka South LG. This is just another instance of the kind of violent crimes linked to cults that have occurred recently, and the state government is determined to put an end to it.
“The government sympathises with the families of the deceased and assures them that the government will get to the root of the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.
“To this end, the government appeals to members of the public to avail it of any useful information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators, while assuring them of confidentiality and a handsome reward.
“Law-abiding Anambra State residents are advised to go about their lawful businesses without fear while the state government works with security services to handle the incident. Hotlines for relaying this and related information will be made available.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State police command has frowned at the act of burying evidence and disruption of the ongoing investigation.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, Tochukwu Ikenga (SP) stated this in a press statement made available to journalists on Monday.
“Anambra State Police Command remains committed to the ongoing investigation and to arrest the perpetrators of the cult-related killings in Nibo yesterday 20/10/2024, which recorded five persons dead and three others seriously injured and currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
“The Command also frown at the act of some deceased relatives to bury evidence, suppress information and disrupt the ongoing investigation.
“The Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam today 21/10/2024 led Police Operatives to the scene on a spot assessment and stated that the Command had redoubled its efforts to leave no stone unturned in hunting down the assailants,” Ikenga said.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State governor, Prof Charles Soludo on Monday paid a condolence visit to Nibo community during which he reinstated his commitment to fish out the perpetrators of the dastard act.
