Accord to Buhari, CBN: Make money & fuel available to end citizens’ sufferings

The Accord party has called on the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to ease the hardship being experienced by Nigerians by making money and fuel available.

The Accord National Chairman Alhaji Mohammed Nalado also urged the federal government to direct the CBN and authorities in the oil industry to supply fuel and cash to Nigerians.

Nalado made these appeals at a press briefing during the National Working Committee meeting of the party on Tuesday, saying that the hardship being felt by citizens was capable of impacting the 2023 elections.

He said the citizens were waiting for President Muhammadu Buhari to address Nigerians with a view to finding a solution to the matter, adding that such pronouncement of the presidency would address the suffering of Nigerians by ensuring that cash and fuel were made available to Nigerians.

“I’m calling on the Federal Government (FG), and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to ease the hardship faced by Nigerians. Any policy that will put Nigerians in difficulty as we face today will not augur well for the country. We have seen a place where a woman stripped herself naked in the fuel station.

“The federal government should make sure that fuel is supplied to fuel stations.

“We are satisfied with the preparation of INEC for the elections. We had a meeting with them and they too were in doubt of the supply of fuel and cash.

“Accord is calling the CBN and the federal government to ensure that this suffering comes to an end. If there is no money and fuel, it’s going to affect the distribution of election materials. What will ease the situation is to make the cash and fuel available.

“We are waiting for President Muhammadu Buhari to address Nigerians on this matter. The main issue is to address the suffering of Nigerians to make cash available to Nigerians.

“We are calling on the CBN to make it mandatory for banks to pay at the counter and not the ATM alone. ATM can disappoint because they are machines. Government should direct the banks to start dispensing currency at the counter”, the Accord national chair said.

The National Chairman of the party stated that the pronouncement by the Independent National Election (INEC) in its meeting with political parties that election would not hold in 240 polling units was to ensure that some politicians did not use those polling units to rig elections.

He said the cancellation of election in the polling units was nothing to worry about because there were no registered voters there.

“This is to ensure that people don’t go and create polling units and use them to rig elections”, he said.
