Wike promises Abuja rural dwellers more projects

By Daniel Tyokua

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has promised to make provision for more projects that will have direct bearing on people in rural areas.

He made the commitment while flagging off the construction of a 1.7 km interdistrict road otherwise known as the collector road and engineering facilities connecting Daki biyu, Utako, Jabi and Wuye districts of Abuja.

While expressing appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for giving priority to rural dwellers in the FCT in his project initiatives, he noted that the aim was to improve their welfare and raise their standards of living.

Wike announced that having carried out four consecutive days of flagging-off of new projects within the city centre, his administration will be revisiting the six area councils from next Monday to commence another rounds of construction of people impacting projects.

While speaking on the need to improve the aesthetics of the capital city in line with modern day realities, Wike disclosed that his administration will soon embark on the upgrade of Garki Area 1 and other old neighbourhoods in the capital city that are in dire need of facelift.

On the scope of the road in Diki Biyu, the Executive Secretary Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Sheu Ahmed said the road is a dual carrier, and it’s a four lane road, linking the old road,.

According to him, the road is called arterial road 5, with a bus in the old road 1, another arterial road.

Ahmed said, “It’s about 1.7 kilometre between the two major arterials and it’s an inter-district road, because whereas the old road is founded within the Japanese district, the original passenger way is within back to the new district. And one very peculiar feature with this road is just like what we had yesterday, it’s an inter-district road, but this has additional peculiarity because it’s opening up and extending services into a sector center.

“So there are multiple activities that will normally be provided within the area, and this is the sector center B. Along with this 1.7 kilometer, a super awkward way, it’s also the development of some important local streets down to minor assets roads, totally about 1 kilometre.

“It’s not just the roads, like we always say, and the minister has already said, as part of the tax from my district infrastructure, into various districts of the federal capital city, this is equally going to open up, and have triple effects on not only the view, district, but they are joining the six of Jabi, Utako and Wuye district”
