Delta State Police Command has declared one Eddy Abel, male, 25 year old artiste wanted for allegedly performing at a gay wedding ceremony in Warri, Delta state.
Recall that the Delta State Police Command had on August 28, 2023, raided a group of suspected gay individuals at a wedding tagged: “All white party” at a popular Hotel in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state. The Command arrested 67 suspects, while one Mr Eddy Abel described as the guest artiste narrowly escaped from the scene.
The press statement from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police (SP) Bright Edafe and made available to newsmen disclosed that the successful arrest of the 67 suspects was informed by a timely and discreet call by some residents of the neighbourhood, who have grown wary about the high wave of same sex intimate relationships in Warri and Delta State.
SP Edafe affirmed that gay marriage remains illegal in Delta State and in Nigeria. The police also appealed to the public for any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the run-away guest artiste, Eddy Abel.
The suspects were arraigned in court on August 30, 2023 and the judge ruled that they be remanded in prison.
Although the Police is on the trail of the suspect who is still at large, a member of the neighbourhood who pleaded anonymity for obvious reasons confided in our correspondent that the artiste’s closeness to the group might have inadvertently put him on Police watch list. As at press time, his whereabouts remain unknown.
