A coalition of youth members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider the appointment of Defence Minister Badaru Abubakar, alleging poor performance and disloyalty to the party.
Speaking during a protest in Dutse on Friday, the group’s coordinator, Ahmad Magaji Bashir, accused the Defence Minister of actions that undermine the APC’s efforts and tarnish its reputation in the state.
The group expressed frustration over what they described as Abubakar’s failure to support APC initiatives in Jigawa and his alleged alignment with the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Bashir highlighted several concerns, including Abubakar’s perceived lack of support for APC members and alleged favoritism toward PDP members in the state. The group also noted instances of APC billboards featuring President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima being disrupted under the minister’s watch.
“We are deeply concerned about the Minister’s lack of commitment to the APC’s vision and programs, which has caused frustration within our ranks. His actions appear to work against the interests of the party in Jigawa and Nigeria at large,” Bashir stated.
The group warned that Abubakar’s continued tenure could harm the APC’s standing in Jigawa and beyond and urged President Tinubu to take decisive action.
“We urge President Tinubu to reconsider Minister Abubakar’s appointment. His continued role in the government could jeopardize the party’s effectiveness and hinder our collective efforts,” the group said.
Despite their grievances, the youth group reaffirmed their support for President Tinubu’s administration and called for stronger leadership within the APC to restore confidence and unity among party members in Jigawa State.
