The Federal Government of Nigeria has commended Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, for his intervention in federal road projects across the state. This recognition came during an interactive engagement in Abuja between the Ministry of Works, Niger State Government, and contractors handling various federal road projects.
Senator David Umahi, Minister of Works, praised Governor Bago’s efforts as unprecedented, highlighting his exemplary leadership in attending the meeting. Umahi encouraged other governors to follow Bago’s example and emphasized the need for effective project supervision.
The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, described Governor Bago as a hardworking and passionate leader, committed to his people’s wellbeing. This is evident in his people-oriented programs, which demonstrate his dedication to the state’s development.
Governor Bago revealed that the state government is intervening in 18 federal road projects to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. He suggested quarterly peer reviews to encourage the federal government to do more for the people.
The Niger State Government delegation included notable figures such as Senators Mohammed Sani Musa and Peter Jiya, and representatives Shehu Sale and Saidu Musa Abdullahi. Also present were Chief of Staff Abdullahi Usman Gbatamangi and Commissioner for Works Suleiman Mohammed.
During the meeting, Senator Umahi stressed the importance of synergy between federal legislators and the Ministry to ensure adequate funding for project execution. He warned contractors to adhere to project specifications, emphasizing that it’s no longer business as usual.
Governor Bago’s administration has shown significant commitment to infrastructure development.
Recently, he flagged off the “Bago Electrifying Niger Agenda” to overhaul 600 transformers, aiming to boost socio-economic activities in the state.
In addition, the state government has partnered with the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) to promote dry-season farming. This initiative will provide inputs worth N30 billion to 35,000 farmers, enhancing food production and security.
The Niger State Government has also invested heavily in mechanized agriculture, with plans to cultivate 100,000 hectares of farmland. This effort is expected to revolutionize agriculture and make the state a leading producer.
Overall, Governor Bago’s leadership and initiatives have earned recognition from the federal government, demonstrating his commitment to Niger State’s development and the well-being of its people.
