The Nigerian Senate has reaffirmed its commitment to making Nigeria a hub for educational excellence. This pledge was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a public hearing on two critical bills aimed at establishing new tertiary institutions in the country.¹
The bills in question are: “The Federal Polytechnic Onueke, Ezza South, Ebonyi (Establishment) Bill, 2024” and “The Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri (Establishment) Bill, 2024”. These proposed institutions are expected to provide increased access to quality education for Nigerians.
Akpabio, represented by Senator Titus Zam (Benue North West), emphasized the significance of education in driving national progress. He noted that the contributions of stakeholders during the public hearing would demonstrate the collective resolve to make Nigeria a beacon of educational excellence.
“Today’s gathering reflects our shared commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable development through education,” Akpabio stated, adding: Education remains a cornerstone for national progress, and its accessibility to all Nigerians is crucial for our collective future.”
The Senate’s commitment to educational excellence aligns with its broader goals of promoting inclusive and sustainable development in Nigeria. By establishing new tertiary institutions and prioritizing education, the Senate aims to empower Nigerian youth and drive national progress.
