The prestigious American University of Peace and Governance, USA, is set to honor distinguished Nigerians for their outstanding contributions to society. Among the honorees are Her Excellency, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu; renowned legal luminary, Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN; MD/CEO of Ohi Akpengbe Crime Watch; and other notable personalities.
This recognition underscores their exceptional dedication to promoting peace, governance, and societal development.
Themed “The Significance of Good Governance in Politics Towards Sustainable Peace and National Security,” the landmark event will take place on November 30, 2024, at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Lecture Theatre Hall, starting at 10:00 AM.
The program will include lectures, discussions on governance and peace, and an award ceremony to recognize outstanding individuals who have contributed significantly to leadership, cultural advancement, public service, and other fields of excellence. Among the awards to be conferred is the Honorary Doctorate (Ph.D. Honoris Causa), the highest honor awarded by the institution.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos, His Excellency Amb. Dr. Jonathan Ojadah, the African Continental Head of the University, emphasized the importance of the lecture in addressing issues of bad governance, poor leadership, and community disputes. Brig. Gen. Babatunde Solomon Kumapayi (Rtd), a senior lecturer in Gender, Peace, and Security at the University of Calabar, will deliver the keynote lecture, focusing on conflict resolution and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms.
“As part of our mission to encourage excellence in leadership, we recognize and honor outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions in their respective fields,” Dr. Ojadah remarked.
In addition to the awards, selected individuals will be honored as ambassadors for Cutting Edge African Magazine. According to the Editor-in-Chief, Amb. Dr. Ezekiel Isidahomen, Ph.D. who is the Co Cover Of the event, honorees were chosen based on their impactful contributions to community development, empowerment initiatives, scholarship programs, and efforts in promoting peace and development.
