Persons with Disabilities (PWD) have called on President Bola Tinubu to consider appointing one of them as a Minister, in other to be part of the nation’s policy makers.
They also called on governors Caleb Mutfwang and chairmen of local government councils across the state to appoint them as Commissioners and supervisory councillors respectively.
The call was made through its Plateau State chairman, Shindol Aaron Adamu, while briefing journalists in Jos, the State Capital, in commemoration of the 2024 International Day for Persons with Disabilities.
The theme for the 2024 occasion is: Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.
He said the aforementioned theme is, “both timely and crucial for building a society where every individual thrives, regardless of ability.
“We call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, governors, national and State assemblies, and local government chairmen across the country to enforce disability laws and introduce new policies that prioritise accessibility, education, healthcare, and economic inclusion.
“We call for the establishment of advisory councils or committees led by persons with disabilities to influence state policies and programs.
“While calling for investment in capacity building, provide training, scholarships, and leadership development programs tailored to persons with disabilities.
“In promoting employment opportunities, partner with private sector stakeholders to implement inclusive hiring practices.
“As we mark this important day, let us reflect on our shared responsibility to amplify the leadership of persons with disabilities.
“By doing so, we not only honour their resilience, but also build a Plateau State and Nigeria where inclusivity and sustainability are at the core of our development agenda”, he stressed.
