NAWOJ FCT calls for end to SGBV in Nigerian communities

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, led by Honorable Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, recently expressed gratitude to Nigerian women for their support since she assumed office. This appreciation was conveyed during a high-level event tagged “Collaborative Pathways to Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Roadmap.”

At the event, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim showcased her humility and willingness to learn from and work with women’s groups, as well as past Women Affairs Ministers. Her primary goal is to achieve more for women, girls, and men in the country.

The event also featured a presentation by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT, which highlighted cultural practices harmful to women and girls. The presentation offered solutions to eliminate these practices and promoted unity among women to achieve their goals. In addition, the Honourable Minister for Women Affairs, emphasized for more attention on vulnerable children to protect them from SGBV.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of NAWOJ FCT, Bassey Ita Ikpang, reaffirmed NAWOJ’s commitment to collaborating with other women’s groups to amplify their voices and promote the betterment of women and girls. Mrs Ikpang appreciated the Minister for the opportunity and presented the newly elected Chairman of NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike.

NUJ FCT Chairman, Grace Ike, has made history by becoming the first female chairman of the council in 43 years, breaking the long-standing male dominance in the position.

Chairman Grace Ike emphasized the significance of unity among women, encouraging them to be resolute in their beliefs and diligent in pursuing their objectives. She stressed that power is not effortlessly bestowed but rather seized, urging women to reject the notion of female limitations and strive to attain their goals, no matter how unattainable they may seem.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Amb. Gabriel Tanimu Aduda, also commended Nigerian women for their support and advised them to unite and work together to achieve their objectives.
