The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, received an extraordinary welcome on Friday as he arrived in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, for a six-day holiday.
Kasimu Yusha’u Tsafe, the convener of the Zamfara APC Supporters group, described the warm reception as a spontaneous outpouring of love and respect for the minister.
“Despite issuing no formal invitation or announcement about his visit, thousands of enthusiastic supporters flooded the streets to welcome him,” Tsafe remarked.
He emphasized the diversity of the crowd, saying, “Men, women, children, and even persons with disabilities thronged Gusau’s main thoroughfares, chanting, singing, and waving banners to celebrate his homecoming.”
Tsafe added that Matawalle’s return was a unifying moment for the people of Zamfara.
“This is not a political season, but Zamfara people are eager to see their golden son. It’s a significant moment for us, and we are thrilled to have him back. Matawalle did not ask anyone to organize his homecoming, but the people of Zamfara took it upon themselves. This shows how much they respect and cherish him as their leader,” he said in a statement.
Dr. Matawalle entered the state through the Katsina border at Yankara and is expected to spend his holiday meeting with stakeholders, community leaders, and citizens. His engagements will focus on discussions about developmental strategies and enhancing security in Zamfara.
Supporters have hailed his arrival as a “very historic” event, praising his leadership and the hope he inspires for the state’s future.
