Banditry : Shinkafi residents applaud Matawalle over decisive blow on Turji’s network

The Shinkafi Civil Society Organization (SCSO) has expressed appreciation to the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, for overseeing a military operation that led to the death of a close associate and son of the notorious bandit kingpin, Bello Turji.

The operation, carried out by the Nigerian Army over the weekend, targeted Turji’s gang after he threatened to attack Shinkafi starting January 1, 2025.

Acting on Matawalle’s directives, troops dismantled Turji’s camp, killed several of his associates, and dealt a significant blow to his criminal network.

Although Turji managed to escape with severe injuries, the military’s efforts have been described as a major success. Soldiers destroyed the gang’s hideout and disrupted their operations, bringing relief to the embattled community.

At a press briefing in Shinkafi, SCSO Chairman Kabiru Yahuza praised Matawalle’s decisive leadership and commitment to the safety of the area.

“The recent offensive has given Shinkafi residents renewed confidence in their safety,” Yahuza stated, calling the operation a turning point in the fight against banditry.

Residents, who have endured prolonged insecurity, have credited the success of the operation to Matawalle’s proactive leadership.

The SCSO further urged citizens to continue supporting the Nigerian military and local authorities, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in combating insecurity.

Yahuza noted that, despite not being the chief security officer of Zamfara State, Matawalle has demonstrated remarkable dedication to safeguarding the welfare of the people. His efforts, he added, have strengthened security measures and restored hope to communities impacted by banditry.

The Nigerian Army’s successful operation has brought to the fore the increasing effectiveness of the country’s security forces under the current administration. Authorities have called for continued patience and cooperation from the public as they work towards achieving lasting peace in Zamfara and other affected regions.

Recall that Dr. Matawalle has reaffirmed his determination to eradicate banditry, stating his commitment to ensuring sustained peace and security in the region.
