Senate C’ttee suspends budget approval for Auditor General’s Office

By Abbanobi -Eku Onyekachi, Abuja

The Senate Committee on Public Accounts, chaired by Senator Aliyu Wadada, has suspended the approval of the budget for the Office of the Auditor General for the Federation.

This decision was made due to “gray areas” that need to be clarified before the committee can proceed with approving the budget.

The committee is responsible for auditing ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of public funds. However, with issues arising from the Office of the Auditor General, the committee has decided to put the budget approval on hold until these issues are resolved.

The implication of this suspension is that the Office of the Auditor General will not receive its budget approval until the committee is satisfied that the “gray areas” have been addressed. This means that the office may face delays in its operations and activities until the budget is approved.

It’s worth noting that this is not the first time the Office of the Auditor General has faced issues. In previous years, there have been concerns raised about the office’s operations and accountability ². The committee’s decision to suspend the budget approval is likely aimed at ensuring that these concerns are addressed and that the office is held accountable for its actions.
