Senate shifts resumption date to February 4

By Abbanobi -Eku Onyekachi, Abuja

The Senate has announced a change in its resumption date, citing the ongoing budget defense as the reason for the shift. In an internal memo issued by the Office of the Clerk on Friday, January 24, 2025, all senators were informed that the resumption date has been rescheduled from Tuesday, January 28, 2025, to Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 11:00 am prompt, according to a statement signed by the Clerk of the Senate, Andrew Nwoba over the weekend.

This development comes as the National Assembly is currently engaged in the consideration of the 2025 budget, with various committees conducting budget defense sessions with heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The Senate had initially planned to suspend plenary for two weeks to focus on the budget consideration, with a tentative date of January 31, 2025, set for laying the budget report.

The shift in the resumption date is likely to give the senators more time to thoroughly review the budget proposals and conduct the necessary defense sessions. The Senate Clerk, Andrew Nwoba, thanked the senators for their understanding and cooperation in the matter.
